Synopsis:
The history of Follonica, a blend of invention, historical record, and fiction, spans nearly two centuries. Told through the perspectives of compelling, historically plausible characters, the narrative follows: a farmhand who, in the mid-1800s, leaves rural life to explore the “infernos” of the Ilva ironworks; a young woman who, in the early 1930s, finds employment as a domestic servant in a house within the foundry—the “city within the city”; and a young cast iron artist who witnesses the transformative impact of tourism on Follonica during the boom years, leading up to the present day. Five interwoven stories. Five destinies shaped by a city in constant evolution. A symbolic object, passed from hand to hand, guides the viewer through the community’s emblematic locations, inviting a rediscovery of their evocative power and future potential.
